Getting Here

Nosara is accessible by a combination of international flight + ground shuttle or a short domestic hop to the local airstrip. Liberia (LIR) is closest for ground transfers; San José (SJO) often has more flight inventory. We can help coordinate what fits your arrival window and group size.

  • Dry season roads are straightforward; rainy season (May–Nov) can benefit from 4x4 clearance.
  • Private & shared shuttle services run daily between Liberia, San José & Nosara.
  • Daily domestic flights (Air Sansa) connect LIR & SJO to the Nosara (NOB) airstrip (10–12 min from the house).

Driving Directions

From Liberia (LIR)

Approx. 2 hr 15–30 min (about 125 km). The route is mostly paved and the preferred choice for a quick ground transfer.

  1. Exit Liberia Airport heading southwest on Route 21 toward Nicoya.
  2. Continue through Nicoya following signs toward Sámara / Nosara.
  3. At the intersection near Nosara (beyond Barco Quebrado), follow signage for Playa Guiones / Playa Pelada.
  4. Enter Playa Guiones North; the Jungle Beach House sits on the front row near the maritime zone (we send precise pin upon booking).

Tip: Daytime arrivals are simplest. Evening arrivals—consider a shuttle or overnight near the airport if landing very late.

From San José (SJO)

Approx. 4 hr 30–5 hr depending on traffic (about 250 km). Scenic mountain/lowland mix; can be slower on weekends & holidays.

  1. Take Route 27 west (toll road) toward Caldera.
  2. Connect to Route 1 briefly, then head toward the Tempisque Bridge (La Amistad) toward Nicoya.
  3. Pass through Nicoya and follow the same final approach used from Liberia (toward Sámara / Nosara, then Playa Guiones).
  4. Proceed to the estate using the pin we provide for final meters (some mapping apps mislabel last turns—Waze works best).

Alternate: Route via Route 32 + 152 exists but usually slower—stick with 27 unless closures occur.

Domestic Flights (Air Sansa)

If you prefer to skip or shorten ground travel, domestic flights connect both Liberia (LIR) and San José (SJO) to the Nosara airstrip (NOB). Flight time is about 35–40 minutes and the airstrip is roughly a 10–12 minute drive from the house.

Note: Flight schedules can shift seasonally—early bookings recommended for peak months (Dec–Apr, July, holiday weeks).

  • Simplest logistics: Land at LIR → pre-book private shuttle → arrive under 2.5 hrs.
  • Budget-conscious: SJO → shared shuttle (longer ride but lower per-person cost).
